San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is famous for starting the collection of plants and animals at the Panama-American Exposition in the 20th century.
Today, it is a world-class research center and home to several endangered species.
It is the perfect place to enjoy a family vacation.
The acreage has ample room to tour the zoo, but it will require more than a day’s travel.
Fortunately, the zoo has several benches to rest your weary feet.
Mei Sheng is the tourists’ favorite panda, and the queue can last up to an hour during peak season.
Zoo mascots can take pictures with children (and adults, if they wish!).
Car, bus, or bicycle can reach it, and parking is free.
You can enter through Zoo Place just off Park Boulevard in Balboa Park near downtown San Diego.
Balboa Park
Balboa Park is located northeast of downtown San Diego.
The park features walking and biking trails and play and picnic areas.
At Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street, the entrance has a bridge you can cross, taking you to what remains of the Panamanian-American Exposition held between 1915 and 1916.
Some buildings in the park are quaint and house gift shops, cafes, and restaurants.
San Diego’s biggest and best museums are also located here.
Sea World
Along with the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld is the most popular tourist spot in San Diego.
What started in the 1960s is a popular theme park with Shamu, the orca, as the city’s unofficial symbol.
The best thing about SeaWorld is how it allows for a high level of interaction between the animals and their human visitors.
For example, the Dolphin Interaction Program allows direct contact with the dolphins after being educated about the marine mammal and its habitat.
To culminate the activity, access to holding tanks is granted, where participants can touch and hold the dolphin with the supervision of keepers.
The program costs around $150 per person, but many say it’s worth every penny.
Reservations should be made as soon as possible as it fills up quickly.
